CichlidClub Care Recommendations

What are the ideal water parameters for Central American Cichlids?

Cichlids thrive in soft, slightly acidic water with a pH between 7.0 and 7.8. Maintaining a temperature range of 78°F to 85°F.

How do I set up a breeding tank for hybrid cichlids?

A breeding tank should be at least 20 gallons with no live plants, a sand or gravel substrate and plenty of hiding spots with terracotta planting saucers and pots. We recommend a dedicated breeding area with a sponge filter to ensure water quality and reduce stress. Water temperature between 82°F and 85°F.

What are some ways to trigger spawning?

Power feeding with high protein pellet foods, night crawlers, frozen shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms.
Cold water changes, dropping tank water temp to high 70s.

How often should I perform water changes?

Weekly partial water changes of 25-50% are recommended to maintain water quality and prevent the buildup of harmful nitrates. Always use dechlorinated water and match the temperature.
